Aftermath Of Camrose Storm
(In Our Yard)
Ed and I spent the August long weekend at a family camp in the Thorhild. The same weekend being the Big Valley Jamboree. We got word at the camp that the (plow wind) had hit Camrose without warning. As our daughter put it to me later, the wind had hit ahead of the storm. Brian and Suzanne and the kids were sitting at the Big Valley Jamboree with everyone else where it hit the worst, killing one, injuring aprox. 75 others. To get a good picture of what happened, view Suzanne and Brian's facebook sites.
We were not aware of what happened to our back yard until we came home, and walked to the back of the house. Our beautiful huge beautiful tree, which I loved and was feeding birds, was hit hard. Our neighbor said she heard the loud crack, and saw it split. It filled our back yard.
I am so saddened to hear of all the injuries, the loss of the one who left behind a husband and two young boys. So sad, I was so thankful that it hadn't been worse. It could have wiped out many, many people.
Before this happened, God had set in motion a group of young people to minister to the families of the injured people. The young Bible college students, called "Street Invaders," had just arrived from Saskatchewan. They had just come to do some kids ministry. But the Church of God, ( our church) where they were staying is the designated meeting place for families of those taken to the hospital (nearby) when there is an emergency situation like this. So they were on hand to help, encourage, and even pray with many different ones.
The church usually has a Saturday evening service. The service was canceled and people started helping as the church became the emergency centre. (The church has lots of EMS workers.)
Superstore donated lots of food and other items for those in need. Afterwords, what was not used was given to "Street Invaders" to help feed them while they are here. A wonderful provision indeed.
Now the rest of us are busy cleaning up our dead trees and hauling them to the dump. Fortunately, thanks to a friend with a chainsaw, we were able to salvage about a third of our tree. Some of it has been taken away but it will take several more trips to the dump to complete the job.
We thank God that our kids and our grandkids were unharmed. We are also thankful that the tree did not damage anything else.
God is good!
