Christmas In The Turner Home

Our kids were home to help us celebrate our "first" Christmas in our new home. All except for one, of course, Jon, who is quite a few miles away in Taiwan. We all missed him. Jon did call home on Christmas day, then got onto the computer in the yahoo chat room, to chat more with all of us. Ron and Suzanne and Thomas sent some "special" video footage, of "basketball fun", downstairs, in our basement. It would have even been more complete if Brian, and Mikayla were both here. Maybe next year. Our time with Suzanne and Thomas went quite fast, of course, with this mama bear having to work 3 of the days they were here. But we made up for it in the evening . Love you Jon!! And Miss you very much! More pictures will be posted when we can get them posted. Some have yet to be down loaded onto a cd, (the ones of the basketball being shot downstairs.

Are All The Children In?

My Mom
So many memories, so many tears--
Her papa taken away on her 14th year--
Taken away from Barbara Jean--
A "PK", she had always been.

She was the tom-boy of the two;
In fact, a girl called "Tommy", as she grew--
Nicknamed as her papa's "son"--
The son her papa never knew.

Always chasing boys and climbing trees,
Must have kept her parents on their knees.
And Sister Mollie always asking
Couldn't you just be quiet, please?

Harmonious music was her love,
Placed in her heart by God above.
Her fingers played; her strong voice sang--
From deep inside, sweet melodies rang.

Carried on to babies in her womb,
She lullabyed them as they grew.
Soon music and harmony--they all learned,
Passed down from the papa she once knew.

She instilled within them the joy of her heart--
Harmony and rhythm--each one singing a part.
Always a melody winging it's way,
Helping her children to get through the day.

As Mom's lips were silent in her final night,
And hearts were heavy in dimness of light,
Once again it was music that rang in the room
Helping her children to get through the gloom.

Holding her hand, smiling and singing,
Talking of things past and things yet ahead..
Sitting through the night, just holding on tight.
Please don't let go, Mom..no, not quite yet.

So many feelings that tug at my heart;
The kids aren't all in yet--please don't depart.
Some on the road and some on a plane.
Wondering will they ever see you again?

In that tense room we all wait--
Watching her breathe is no easy state.
A room full of beds where the family can fall,
While watching and waiting for Mom's final call,

Calling her home--for Mom it's all gain,
Some are excited--others just in pain,
Hearts full of love and family devotion,
But heavily laden with unworked-thru emotion.

She has our permission to walk thru the door
Yet, so much emotion..still unaccounted for.
I'm not ready to lose you, Mom--how my heart aches,
Though I know you'll leave us by dawn's early break.

I continue to hold on and don't want to let go.
My head and my heart being pulled to and fro!
How can I help her through the door just ahead,
When so many things are still left unsaid.

Deep, inner sorrow, whether wanted or not--
Such mixed emotions that just won't stop!
Jeannie's excited--God's taking her home
But I already miss her and feel left all alone!

Can I let her go? My heart says, No!
Aching, emptiness, loneliness, silence,
Fear of being left behind, so far apart,
Left only with a weary, aching heart.

How do I do this? How do I carry on?
I know it's God's strength I must lean upon,
In His loving kindness I should place my trust.
I don't want her to leave--though I know she must.

So I just keep holding her hand in mine,
Singing to her, talking to her all the time,
Saying, "I love you, Mom: I will miss you, Mom;
Please try to hang on a little while longer, Mom.

Aunt Mollie, so gently stroking her hair,
Singing sweetly, talking softly--her last chance to share
Reminding her precious sister of days gone by,
With a heart full of love, a tear slips from her eye.

The clock being watched, anxious voices kept low,
Will they make it in time? Only God knows--
It's His timing and authority the angels listen for.
"The plane is now in!"--the youngest son walks in the door.

"Are the kids all in?", Mom's eyes ask once more,
No, Mom, one more family is still on the road.
Even knowing they probably won't make it in time,
Still they press onward--at least they must try.

My eyes fill with tears as I watch it begin--
Her lungs have filled up and panic sets in.
It's coming--it's happening--it's almost here!
In her final moments her eyes fill with fear.

Mom's nurse--God's angel, so generously lent,
Springing into action--the family now spent,
Taking Mom and the family to God's throne in prayer,
Her heart full of compassion, her hands full of care.

Many stand watching at Heaven's open door,
Including the son, she was hanging on for.
Are the kids all in?, she ask's in her fear
Yes Mom, you can go now--we're all here.

Silver Bells

Snow falling lightly, music in the air, children laughing , families hustling, trying to purchase gifts for their loved ones. Carts pass by me one by one, with sleeping babies, children, in them, while mom and dad continue to hurry to avoid the mad rush just before Christmas. Other children crying, needing to be taken home for a nap, or lunch. Parents, just so caught up in their own agendas, that they don't notice (or are ignoring), their children's needs. People walking around, looking so tired that they could just drop into a chair, unhappy faces, impatience coming to the surface over and over again, as they try to be the next person to get waited on, in line. Hands on hips, upside down smiles, rudeness comes across over and over. All in the name of "Christmas".

Soft music plays in the air. "Silver Bells, Silver Bells, It's Christmas time in the city. Ring a Ling, hear them ring, soon it will be christmas day." Music that should "calm" the soul, does for some, but not for those who don't have time to "really hear". Some days, it feels like I am working in "a blur", So many things happening around me. Isles that are full of carts, so full, you feel like you are on a crowded highway. I can't seem to get back to the other department fast enough, to suit the people who are in a hurry. Tempers get short, I feel like I am in a tunnel, sometimes not knowing which way to go to get out of it.

Am I ready for Christmas? My mind constantly goes back to this last Christmas season, which wasn't the happiest for myself, and my family. Our hearts were heavy, the tree didn't even get put up till one week before Christmas, It felt so dark around me at the time, I should have put the lights up fast, but couldn't seem to get my heart to agree. Once the lights went up, all I could do was sit and stare at the lights, and think about many past Christmas's gone by. Christmas's spent in my mom and dad's home, with all my brothers and sisters, around the tree. They were "fun" christmas's. But it felt so strange this Christmas because "one" was gone, and would not return. Mom had just arrived in Heaven, to spend Christmas with Jesus, who meant the world to her. The rest of us "left behind", to put that next Christmas tree up the following year.

Am I ready for Christmas? Has my heart lifted up alittle? I work with a "bag of mixed emotions", a real tug a war. Yes, my heart is lighening, but there are so many memories that go round in my heart when I see all the decorations, christmas trees, hear the music in the air. It brings both sad, and happy memories to mind.

Two years have now passed since I first posted this. It still feels like only yesterday since we lost mom. It is this very time that we had just gotten back from Montana. Our tree got put up only a few days before Christmas. My heart was very heavy. I didn't want to take part in the "fun, laughter, merry ment" of the Christmas season. I wanted to just sit and cry. As I write this, I am there once again. I'm sorry, I still miss my mom, as I know we all do. I feel like mom was taken away from us way too soon. I can't seem to let her go, even now, as it is 2 years later. A few weeks ago, Ed and I had just gotten back from the funeral of a very special lady in our lives. In fact, I had asked her one time on the phone, if I could call her "mom"?

"Why Christmas time"? That is a question that goes around in my mind this year. So many loved ones are taken home at Christmas time, or New Year's. I still work in a "blur" many days. I still hear "Silver Bells", playing in the background. Carts everywhere are still being pushed around with sleeping children in them. Many people look so tired, so unhappy. Many tempers very short with children, with each other. Carts so full. Wallets becoming very "bare". As I sat in the lunch room today, one lady was quietly saying to another, basically, that we need to put on that "smile" and "cheerful" attitude, even tho some of our customers are so short tempered. We don't know what they are dealing with in their lives. As I sat listening, I was definately thinking about mom, and our family who were tired, and emotional.

No, I'm not really ready for Christmas yet. Our tree was just put up on Sunday night. We had just gotten home from a "Country Christmas Program", in a little country church. It was a beautiful evening, but brought many emotions back to the surface, as I sat there. We couldn't go to bed that night without getting the tree put up. It is so beautiful, the lights. I sit in the room late at night just stareing at the "lights" again, as I did, having just gotten back saying good bye to mom.

I am thankful for my kids. We just found out that Suzanne and Thomas will be here for Christmas. Ron is already home. Now all we need is Jon! I miss you Jon. I still am a "bag of mixed emotions". Too much saying "goodbye" to special people, in my life this last few years, so many changes. But "God" Is?? In Control?! I love you all. Please be patient with me, I am feeling "alittle" sentimental at the moment. After all, it is Christmas Time you know!

Ron and Jon

Two very special people in our lives. This was taken last July out at Ron's tree planting camp in British Columbia. Ron made a "flying" trip back to our place to grab his brother Jon for a couple of days. They got a little more than they had bargained for, on the trip back out to the camp. I'm still waiting for that part of the story to appear in Jon's blog. How bout it Jon??

There's "More Wood"???

Can't have a night with out a bonfire!! That's one of the things you do in Kentucky, at Tom and Nancy's. Of course, by the looks of the fire wood stack here, it might not last long. But it lasted for quite awhile, for you see, Dad was out back chopping wood for our bonfire. And when Dad chops wood, he "chops" lots of wood. One of the many things he did regularily in Montana.

A "Huge Highlight" Of My Trip

A "Huge Highlight" to my trip to Michigan, was my "side trip" to Tom and Nancy's place in Kentucky. After Dad hadn't been feeling well, we weren't too sure Kentucky would be in the picture. But as you can see by
Eagle Eye Di's Pictures, we definately made it. It was an awsome couple of days. I never will get tired of going to Tom and Nancy's. It is such a whole different world at their place. Us twins got behind the wheel and away we went. (Check out Eagle Eye Di's blog for all the pictures) Little Ruthie was quite the happy little camper to be at Uncle Tom's and Aunt Nancy's. She even helped Uncle Tom build the fire we had out side the last evening we were there.

A Couple Of "Proud Wolves"!!

The cheers on the court were for Ron Turner and Jen Seemann. Ron is one of the Captains of their team, and plays "guard". He is a "very aggressive player" while in action on the court. Jen is the "Star" of the ladies team, and plays "forward". They are each others "greatess cheerleaders". Both 6 foot tall, and see "eye to eye" on their basketball. Posted by Picasa

The Wolves Are Back In Action

It was terrific to be able to spend the weekend at Grand Prairie Regional College, watching both the "Wolves" teams run the court. They played a team from Edmonton, Alberta. All except for the one game, which the guys lost by 2 points, they won the games. Saturday morning started out with a breakfast put on for both of the Wolves teams, and coaches, and parents and familys of the players. I had the weekend off of work at Wal-Mart to enjoy the weekend. Wow!! It was great! Posted by Picasa

Family Connection

When it comes to Family History Books, your identity you bring with you into life, is the one which goes with you into the "Family History Books". When you go to your Family Re-unions, you don't go looking for the names acquired in later life. No, you look for the name that is the name you knew so well growing up as kids. As time wears on, and memory starts to sometimes fade, which name stands out to you the fastest on those name tags? The names that were given by parents? Or the names you were given by the spouse? When you haven't seen someone for years, and may not even know the married name, which name is the one you look for??
This Weekend was Thank'sgiving weekend for those of us who live in Canada. At church Sunday morning we were asked to write out those 5 things which we are most thankful for. Whenever I am asked that, the first thing off my heart and lips are "my mom and dad". My Christian Heritage!
Without our mom and dad's love and nurture, every one of us kids wouldn't be what we are today. Beginnings! My how important they are!! And no matter what things happen in our upbringing which may cause "negative" reactions, whatever it may be, We are who we are because of our Mom and Dad, and The Lord Jesus Christ. Our mom and dad who had a heart for God, and chose to make sure their kids were gonna learn about Him and make him a part of their lives. All of us "Cousins" had Godly Parents, Godly GrandParents. And for that I am very thankful.

Judy and Jeannies mom's and dad's names:
Winona Joyce Smith (married) Emery Nathan Pierce
Ronald Eugene Smith (married) Barbara Jean Deane

Family History Is Important!!

We need to remember our beginnings. Without our beginnings, we wouldn't be what we are today. My mom may no longer be with us, but I believe she is up there above looking down among us, smiling, and yes, even gigling at silly things we giggle at. Crying with us, when we are heartbroaken, Excited, when we are excited!
There are so many memories that need to go down in these "Family History Journals".

Greg and Lana Pierce.
Greg Dale Pierce
Lana May Wise

Our Cousin Greg and his wife Lana. It was so awsome seeing them again after so many years. Greg is Aunt Winona and Uncle Emery's son. In fact, for those of us cousins who haven't seen our cousin Greg for awhile, it was like looking at Uncle Emery all over again. Wow! The older Greg has gotten, the more like his father he looks like. For those of our kids who aren't too sure of the connection. Aunt Winona is your Grampa's sister.

What fun pictures we have, to hold all our memories in our mind for a long time. Our first day together we spent at Lake Michigan on the beach. This second day we spent the day at the family Reunion. Our cousin Judy and her husband Larry drove this to the reunion, much to everyones amazement and delight. They enjoyed giving a few rides in it. To get a better view of what we are in, click into Eagle Eye Di's post. As you click into our blogs, you may just see identical pictures now and then. That's because they are all of our favorites.
